The American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) is an international standards organization that develops publishes voluntary technical standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems, and services. ASTM has published technical standards addressing soccer goal safety since 1998.
ASTM has no role in requiring or enforcing compliance with its standards. Recently in the United States, a few states have begun to incorpoate and reference the ASTM technical standards into their regulatons addressing soccer goal safety. In addition, these ASTM standards are referred to by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
